I've been everywhere, man!

Mixed Media (hotel key cards, fasteners) Sculpture 2023

This homage to travel uses sixty distinct hotel key cards to form a globe. The hotel key cards are connected at their corners using a pattern obtained by replacing each edge of the icosidodecahedron with a hotel key card.

Background and Inspiration

This is part of a related collection of pieces that replaces edges of polyhedra with quad-connection units (square, rectangle, rhombi, snake, etc). In this piece, the base polyhedron is the icosidodecahedron. The 20 triangular and 12 pentagonal faces of the icosidodecahedron are transformed into pentagonal and triangular open spaces respectively. Similarly, the 30 degree-four vertices of the icosidodecahedron are transformed into open rhombi.

The icosidodecahedron is a regular polyhedron with 32 faces: 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular triangles.
