Ménage à Trois
Digital Print
2012
This artwork depicts three intersecting paths that writhe, undulate, and intertwine around each other. Each path has two-fold rotational symmetry, with the paths having six-fold rotational symmetry. The overall patterns have nearly, but not exactly, two-fold and six-fold rotational symmetry due to the lack of symmetry in the over/under path crossings, providing additional movement in the piece. The paths are constructed in a piecewise fashion using hexagonal tiles decorated with arcs, and placed on a hexagonal grid.
